Other Internet ResourcesNational Council of University Research Administrators - (NCURA) Society of Research Administrators (SRA) Announcing Electronic Submission through Grants.govThrough the www.grants.gov website, the Whitehouse Office of Management & Budget has established a process and streamlined computer access to increase the electronic submission of grants. Grants.gov enables organizations to find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from the federal government's 26 Federal grant-making agencies. It is designed to be the one-stop-shop for applying for Federal funding. One part of OMB's plan is to move proposal submission from existing federal agency computer servers and computer access to grants.gov. This means, if you have plans to propose, for example, to NSF or to the U.S. Dept. of Education, there is a very good likelihood you will have to be registered on grants.gov in order to submit. It's quite possible that the electronic submission for your funding agency has been scheduled to be directed to grants.gov and not through a particular funding agency's computer server. Please NOTE: The Grants.gov website is highly secure one, with servicing capabilities beyond what you may be familiar with at the NSF and U.S. Dept. of Education websites. Therefore during the registration process, please be prepared to provide a birth date or social security number. This data is stated to be kept secure on the grants.gov server. Definition of the Grant Project for Accounting PurposesOSR&G and the Controller's Office use federal definitions to code for our chart of accounts. The following definitions are for: Organized Research, Instruction, and Other Sponsored Activities - as taken from federal regulation 2CFR215, and from USU's website. From the information you provide this office for your grant activities and information from OSR&G's interaction with you and your department, the appropriate definition is chosen and subsequent associated coding is entered in SUU's chart of accounts. Definitions of Grant ActivitiesOrganized Research - means all research and development activities of an institution that are separately budgeted and accounted for. Sponsored Research means all research and development activities that are sponsored by Federal and non-Federal agencies and organizations. This also includes activities involving the training of individuals in research techniques, commonly called research training, where such activities utilized the same facilities as other research and development activities and where such activities are not included in the instruction function. Instruction - means the teaching and training activities of an institution. Except for research training, this term includes all teaching and training activities, whether they are offered for credits toward a degree or certificate or on a non-credit basis, and whether they are offered through regular academic departments or separate divisions, such as a summer school division or an extension division. Other Sponsored Activities - means programs and projects financed by Federal and non-Federal agencies and organizations, which involve the performance of work other than instruction and organized research. Examples of such programs and projects are health service projects, and community service programs |
