Mission & Vision

Mission

Our mission is to deliver excellence in customer service, mechanical systems operation and maintenance, efficient delivery of utilities to campus as well as well-planned and well-designed facilities. By doing so, we will contribute to the University’s mission to provide an exceptional educational environment which is functional, accessible, and beautiful.

Vision

The Utility Services division of Southern Utah University will act as a key component of Facilities Management by striving to be an example of efficiency and professionalism. Utility Services will continue to develop methods in the delivery of utilities and the development of new facilities to support the University’s academic endeavor.

Utility Services has responsibility for maintenance, management, and operation of the following services:

Power and Electrical Systems

  • 15 KV electrical distribution system including transformers and metering
  • Exterior lighting - walkways and parking lots
  • Building lighting and power systems
  • Emergency Generators
  • Energy Conservation
  • Solar Arrays

Campus Natural Gas Distribution System

  • Maintenance and management of the campus natural gas distribution system and meters

Water and Sewer

  • Water distribution piping from City meter to buildings
  • Sewer collection system from buildings to City connections
  • Building water and drain systems
  • Building water heaters and boilers
  • Building plumbing fixtures
  • Campus storm drain and surface drainage and collection system
  • Campus fire line piping and hydrants

Building Mechanical Systems

  • Fire Alarm and Suppression Systems
  • Heating and cooling systems
  • Temperature control
  • Refrigeration and food service equipment
  • Elevators
  • Maintenance of telephone cabling systems
  • Maintenance and repair of Campus Emergency "Blue Light" stations and tunnel call boxes

Central Heat Plant

  • Production of Steam for all central Campus buildings - including residence halls
  • Maintenance of campus tunnel system and emergency tunnel exits
  • Maintenance and repair of steam and condensate distribution system
