| Description | A Youth Supervisors job can be described into one word: a mentor. Youth Supervisors are mentors to minors at Integrity House. This puts a lot of responsibility on the youth supervisor to model appropriate behavior for the residents. When talking to a resident a youth supervisor needs to be respectful, honest and appropriate. Vulgar, crude, and sexual comments or innuendo are not acceptable. Youth Supervisors should never talk about their past, present, or future with residents. Talking about past, present or future drug, alcohol, and sexual behavior are not acceptable. Talking about sexual behavior with the residents would be considered sexual harassment. One thing of note these residents are minor and in the temporary custody of Integrity House which makes the Youth Supervisor responsible for them. It is so important they know nothing about staffs' personal lives. The residents look to staff as a role model and if their role model is doing inappropriate behavior they do not need to know about it. The residents would dwell and think and worry as opposed to focusing on themselves and working the program. Dress standards should be modest and appropriate. Any tattoos or body piercing need to be covered fully and not discussed with the residents. Professional casual dress is the policy at Integrity House. Sandals, flip flops and high heeled shoes are not allowed for the reason of if a resident decides to run through a back field staff needs to wear shoes that are appropriate to go after the resident. Shirts and pants should not promote drugs or alcohol. Staff should come to work ready to work and leave their personal lives behind. Since we are dealing with residents with addiction problems staff should not come in smelling like cigarette smoke, or alcohol. Neither cigarettes nor alcohol are allowed on the premises and smoke breaks are not apart of Integrity House's policies. Firearms, lighters, knives are not allowed on the premises. Employee paperwork involves a section on confidentiality. Youth supervisors need to maintain the resident's confidentiality. This means what happens at work stays at work. What the residents do at the facility cannot be spread out in the community. It is so important to be in compliant with federal laws of confidentiality and not take any of the residents names, ages, or anything about them off the premises into the community. This means in a form of verbally talking about them or writing down information. |
