Southern Utah University is pleased to announce the establishment of Canyon Arts – a creative artist residency that will convene each summer on the SUU campus. Conceived by SUU President Michael Benson, this year's SUU Canyon Arts 2011 will take place from June 24-26 and focus on the art form of chamber music. SUU Canyon Arts 2011 brings college age students together with gifted faculty members from the Manhattan School of Music, members of the Utah Symphony and internationally acclaimed musicians. The residency program will culminate with a free chamber music performance in SUU’s Thorley Recital Hall on Sunday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. While the concert is free and open to the public, RSVP's are required. Interested campus and community members may RSVP online at suu.edu/musicfestival. This year’s Chamber Music Concert will feature headline works by Jacques Ibert, Scott Joplin, Gioachino Rossini, and Francis Poulenc. Featured musicians also include: Alan R. Kay (clarinet), Manhattan School of Music professor and artistic director of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Randall Wolfgang, Principal Oboe with both the New York City Ballet and the New York City Opera orchestras. Leonard Hindell (bassoon), Manhattan School of Music professor and member of the New York Philharmonic. Elaine Jorgensen, professor of Flute at Snow College and member of the American Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood Orchestra. Ronald Beitel (French Horn), member of the Utah Symphony horn section and former performer and recording artist with the Cleveland Orchestra. Larry Gee (piano), keyboardist with the Utah Symphony, Ballet West and Utah Opera and former assistant conductor at the New York City Opera.
