A Daring, Unpredictable Adventure: A  Valedictorian's path to Graduation
Robyn LaLumiaImagine leaving a great job, uprooting your family and moving 250 miles all to follow a childhood dream that life had put on the backburner.

Imagine enrolling in your freshman year as a college student at the same time your teenage daughter was registering for her freshman year of high school.

Imagine losing your spouse to cancer, forever altering the life you had planned.

Imagine balancing work and home, family and school, ambition and grief all while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

On her path to graduation, 2010 University Valedictorian Robyn LaLumia has successfully navigated personal hardships that could have easily derailed her education - choosing instead to work harder, focus more and rely upon the relationships she had developed with professors and advisors to help her persevere.

Once Dean of PVA now Helps Lead Academic Affairs
Associate Provost Bill ByrnesSouthern Utah University is pleased to announce the appointment of William J. Byrnes to Associate Provost and Director of Graduate Studies.

Byrnes, former dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts and interim associate provost and director of graduate studies, will now assist Provost Bradley J. Cook and the deans of SUU's six academic colleges as they carry forward the newly designed academic roadmap.

As he takes on this new role at SUU, Byrnes is "looking forward to helping shape and promote the academic direction of SUU at the undergraduate and graduate level," said Byrnes. "I will be working with the deans, faculty and staff to strengthen what we currently do so well, while focusing on the many new initiatives that will help make SUU a university that is increasingly recognized."

Winning with Heart
Make A Difference DaySouthern Utah University students held their own in an organ donor drive against other Utah colleges and universities with the goal of increasing the state's registered donors as part of the national Make a Difference Day. In fact, SUU came out on top in the Donate Life collegiate competition, with the most overall registrants, proving yet again that SUU students have taken the University's civic engagement focus, quite literally, to heart.

Contributing well over 1,000 new donor registrants, SUU students comprised more than 50 percent of contest-driven registrants statewide.
