Celebrate 50 Years at the Utah Shakespeare Festival
Fiftieth anniversaries are not all that common in this rapidly changing world, and in the world of non-profit theatre, they are extremely rare. Thus, it is with a great deal of pride that the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival opened its golden anniversary season on June 30 and extends a special invitation to you to be part of the golden anniversary celebration.
In the Adams Shakespearean Theatre:
A Midsummer Night's Dream
Romeo and Juliet
In the Randall L. Jones Theatre:
The Music Man
The Glass Menagerie
You are also invited to attend special exhibits and events in honor of The Festival's Golden Anniversary, and take a look at the anniversary book that chronicles the first 50 years of the Utah Shakespeare Festival.

Thunderbird Golfer Claims State Am Title
After scrambling to stay alive in the quarter- and semi-finals of the Utah State Amateur, Southern Utah University's Jeff Evans breezed to the tournament championship on July 10, topping Stratton Schulz 8 & 7 to become the first Thunderbird golfer to claim the tournament title.
In the 36-hole final Schulz - who plays collegiately for Utah Valley University - had a 2-up lead after three holes but Evans came back to bring the match square with wins at the fourth and fifth. Schulz went up again with a birdie at the seventh, but Evans won the ninth, 10th and 11th to go ahead 2-up and he never trailed again. He held a 3-up lead going into the second 18 holes and didn't lose a hole, winning the second, third, sixth, seventh and eighth to take a 8-up advantage, a lead he held after the 11th hole, which gave him the 8 & 7 win.

SUU Cowgirls Prove their Mettle at College National Finals Rodeo
Spectators at the 2011 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming got a fair sampling of Thunderbird talent the end of June, when Southern Utah University students Milli Hughes and Kendra Hoffman set new CNFR and arena records, leading the SUU Rodeo Team to a 10th place overall finish in the national rodeo competition.
Hughes broke the CNFR and arena record of Goat Tying with a blazing time of 5.7 seconds and Hoffman broke the CNFR record for the Barrel Run with a time of 14.2 seconds. Hoffman also secured the Reserve Champion Women's All-Around title.
SUU Coach Shane Flanigan said he is "very pleased with the results." He said this is the first time a student has received the reserve all-around title and is elated that Hoffman accomplished this.
Hughes, a junior elementary education major, hails from Cedar City, UT. And Hoffman is a senior finance major at SUU, from St. George, UT.
