PRESIDENT
SCOTT L WYATT

Hello,

We are excited to share with you news about the successful completion of The Future is Rising campaign. This fundraising effort exceeded its goal and advanced every facet of the SUU experience. It also garnered unprecedented private and public support for the University and our students. We are grateful to our alumni base, as well as the many individuals, families and organizations who have so graciously given to SUU's cause.

Another exciting piece of news is that Ann Romney will be the keynote speaker for our 115th Commencement Ceremonies on May 2. We look forward to having her on campus as we celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2014 and welcome each graduate into the Alumni Association.

Regards,

Campaign for SUU Exceeds $100 Million Goal

Raising a total $105.5 million to advance every facet of the institution, Southern Utah University is pleased to announce the completion of its $100 million The Future is Rising fundraising campaign, formally closed in the University's Founders Celebration and Campaign Finale on March 27.

The Future is Rising campaign has laid a tremendous foundation for future growth and has placed SUU on a trajectory for success," according to SUU President Scott L Wyatt. "The outpouring of support from private individuals, foundations and corporations truly has provided that margin of excellence that will serve to enhance the university experience far beyond what can be achieved through state funding alone."

Historical Moment for SUU, USF in Arts Center Groundbreaking

The cultural landscape of southern Utah was forever changed on March 27, as the first shovel broke ground on the long awaited Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts on the campus of Southern Utah University.

It will serve as the home to the new Shakespeare theatre and a new studio theatre for the Utah Shakespeare Festival, an artistic/production building for the Festival, and the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA) containing four galleries, collection storage and education space. The Center also features a tree lined walkway and sculpture gardens and will offer many large public gathering spaces ideal for receptions and special events.

Ann Romney to address Class of 2014

Ann Romney, former First Lady of Massachusetts, will headline SUU's 115th annual graduation festivities as keynote speaker for the University's general commencement ceremony on Friday, May 2, where she will be awarded an honorary doctorate degree in public service for her contributions of time, funding and support on behalf of children and families.

According to President Scott L Wyatt, the University is looking forward to recognizing Romney for her social impact. Wyatt anticipates Romney's address will prove compelling to the University's graduates as they move forward in life, better positioned to advance the causes they hold close because of the education they have received at SUU.

"We place a high value on community engagement among our students," explained Wyatt, recalling the University's mission, which includes mention of empowering students to be "productive citizens" and "socially responsible leaders."
