SUU Rodeo Team Rides to Success in 2003
The fall 2003 edition of the SUU Rodeo Team held another successful Stampede in September. The Cross Hollow Event Center played host in the Iron Rangers Arena as ten schools from the Rocky Mountain Region were represented. Not only did the SUU rodeo team compete very well but were also challenged with managing the events. “As the rodeo program has grown and developed over the last few years, we have attracted some genuine talent to Southern Utah University,” said, Dr Jean Lopour, advisor to the rodeo team.
Several members of the Rodeo team who have successfully competed in the fall season are holding their own in the regional standings. The Women are represented by Jackie Dannelly, a freshman from Enterprise who was a National Barrel Racing Champion in high school. She also competes in Goat tying and Breakaway. Sami Melling, is a freshman from Cedar City who also competes in Barrel Racing, Goat tying and Breakaway. Mackenzie Wood, a senior from Cedar City, competes in Barrel Racing. At the National Finals Rodeo in 2002 Mackenzie placed 5th in the Barrel Racing. She is also the Student Director for the Rocky Mountain region.
The Men are represented by Josh Beckworth, a freshman from Ely, Nevada. He competes in Bull Riding. Ben Noyes is a senior from Milford and competes in Team Roping. Wade Platt is a freshman from New Castle and competes in Team Roping and Steer Wrestling.
