CAPS Mission Statement

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) facilitates and supports the educational mission of Southern Utah University. Through our developmental, preventive, therapeutic services and programs we promote academic excellence, involvement, personal growth, community and social responsibility across the university campus. We work to provide a welcoming environment for all students through awareness of the diverse needs and backgrounds of the university and broader community. In addition to traditional clinical services we provide consultation to university administrators, faculty and staff.

We work to assess and improve both ongoing and newly developed services and programs by promoting positive growth and healthy psychological adjustment through prevention programming across campus. We continually strive to make our services accessible to as many as possible through psychoeducational presentations, web-based information, and workshops. We coordinate program development with other offices and departments. Finally, we work to provide up-to-date services and contribute to the fields of Psychology, Social Work, and Counseling through ongoing staff professional development and by training doctoral psychology interns.
