What is a catalog?

Every two years, a General Catalog (GC) is published in both hard-copy and on-line forms. The GC is your Holy Grail of exactly what you need to do in order to properly complete a program of study at SUU. The GC has changed each year for the last several years, so knowing from which catalog you are working is one of the single most important questions you can answer. If, for example, you have been working from one catalog for your General Education requirements and a different catalog for your major requirements, you may find yourself in a situation which keeps you from graduating on time, because ALL REQUIREMENTS (GENERAL EDUCATION, MAJOR, MINOR, BS/BA REQUIREMENTS) MUST COME FROM THE SAME CATALOG.

How do I know which catalog to use?

For the most part, your catalog is determined by the year you first come to SUU. For example, if you started in the fall of 2008, your catalog is 2008-09, encompassing the academic year – July 1st through June 30th - rather than the calendar year. In 2009 the catalogs have changed to 2 years. So if you begin in 2009 OR 2010, you will use the 2009-11 catalog. You may select a subsequent catalog if you remain continuously enrolled, i.e. register for at least one course every following fall and spring semester (summer term is not required), or you may choose to use the initial catalog for up to six years. If you do not stay continuously enrolled, you must select the current catalog upon re-entry. If you are still not sure, check out the General Education requirements for different catalog years. Which one lines up best with what you’ve already taken? (Or see your advisor.)
