CARAT Seminar: "Analysis of Anode Lifetimes for WECCO" by guest speaker Pete Cash from the American Pacific Corporation (WECCO) on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in TH 113.

Abstract: WECCO is a local company that manufactures ammonium perchlorate, an
oxidizer used in solid rocket fuel. During the past two summers, mathematics students have worked as interns at WECCO investigating factors involved in the lifetime of the anodes used in the production of ammonium perchlorate. After giving an overview of the production process, we will discuss some of the statistical results of this collaboration between faculty, students, and WECCO employees.

CARAT Seminar: "Laser Processing of Microelectronics and Photovoltaics: Development Trends and Emerging Demand for Advanced Computational Tools " by Dr. Brian Baird on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in TH 113. Dr. Baird is the managing director of Summit Photonics LLC, a photonics engineering services firm, specializing in solid state photonics and laser processing systems.

BIO
Brian Baird received the B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Oregon in 1980, his M.S. in Physics from the University of Washington in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology in 1997. He is currently Managing Director of Summit Photonics LLC, a photonics engineering services firm, specializing in solid state photonics and laser processing systems. From 1988 to 2008, he worked as a research engineer at Electro Scientific Industries. At ESI, Dr. Baird contributed to the research and development of successive generations of laser processing systems employing pulsed solid state and fiber lasers. From 1984 to 1988, he worked as a Research Engineer at Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company. While at Lockheed, he participated in the research and development of the optical avionics suite for the YF-22. Dr. Baird currently holds eleven patents.

CARAT Seminar: Presentation by Dr. Scott Bulloch, oral surgeon, on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in TH 113. Dr. Bulloch will make his presentation on the cutting edge tools and appliances he has made and uses for re-constructive surgery.

Raymond J. Ganowsky and his wife Melzie founded RAM Company in 1975 and have subsequently built a World Class organization employing many highly skilled workers, including their son Kevin who is the General Manager.

RAM Company designs and manufactures solenoids and valves with exacting standards for NASA, the military, undersea submersibles, and a variety of commercial applications. RAM's commitment to innovation and excellence begins with the example of our founder Raymond Ganowsky.
