Integrated Engineering

Engineering Week - February 19-21, 2014

February 19-21, 2014 is recognized as National Engineers Week.
National Engineers Week is observed by more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies. The purpose of National Engineers Week is to call attention to the contributions to society that engineers make. It is also a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills. The celebration of National Engineers Week was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers in conjunction with President George Washington's birthday. President Washington is considered as the nation's first engineer, notably for his survey work.

Southern Utah University’s Integrated Engineering Department will sponsor the annual Engineering Week. The event will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and conclude on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. The three-day event will consist of a day of engineering competitions on Wednesday, a guest speaker on Thursday, and will conclude with an awards banquet on Friday in the Great Hall.

Teachers are invited to bring their middle school, junior high school, and high school students, along with project work that they have constructed, to this event.
It is imperative that schools pre-register the names of all contestants and participants online before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014.

Southern Utah University’s Engineering Week staff members will judge all events. Winners will receive their awards at the awards banquet on Friday, February 21, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Hunter Conference Center Great Hall.
