Meet The Board

The members of the Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Science and Engineering Leadership Board are (listed left-to-right) (1st Row) Jessica Burr, Ashley Rogers, Katelyn Blanchard, Ernesto Balderas, Aaron Petersen, Amanda Maag, Alison Schmidt, (2nd Row) Stephanie Godfrey, Nathan Jaquez, Kaylee Brown, Jacob Ward, Heather Garcia, and Jacob Hanberg.

Jessica Burr

Jessica attended SUU from 2002-2007 and graduated with a degree in Biology while minoring in Psychology. While attending SUU she became heavily involved in student government and served as the VP of Activities 2006-07. After graduation Jessica went to California where she taught school, took more college courses for fun and enjoyed the sunny beaches of southern California. Jessica returned to her Alma Mater in October 2011 as a staff member. Jessica is responsible for the recruiting efforts for the College of Science and Engineering. She is also responsible for the marketing and publicity of the college and events hosted by the various departments. She also helps facilitate the CARAT seminar series hosted by the college each month. In February 2012, Jessica began developing a leadership board for the College of Science and Engineering in conjunction with the Welcome and Admissions office. Most recently, Jessica was named the Regional Director of the Science Olympiad. In her spare time, Jessica likes to workout, compete in triathlons, Tough Mudders, relay races and enjoys hiking, yoga and any sporting activity.

Jacob Hanberg

Jacob H. is a senior psychology major at SUU, and is planning on getting a Master's in Higher Education once he graduates next December. In addition to being the president of the COSE Leadership Board, Jacob is also the Academic Enhancement Coordinator Assistant and helps Jessica with any and every project she is doing. At SUU, he is involved with Presidential Ambassadors and the COSE Leadership Board. SUU is like another home for Jacob, he loves the school, the town, the people, and especially the many opportunities to get involved. Jacob loves homemade chocolate chip cookies, taking pictures, hiking, gardening, people watching, spending time with family, long walks under a full moon, talking with friends, and being close to mountains and lakes.

Ernesto Balderas

Ernesto is the Service Coordinator on our Leadership Board. He was born in Bellflower, CA, lived in Colombia for most of his life, then came back to the United States to finish College. Surprisingly he speaks better English than Spanish! He likes to play soccer, tennis, and lacrosse. He also likes to make videos on his spare time and work on any projects we are working on.

Katelyn Blanchard

Katey is a Special Projects Coordinator for the College of Science and Engineering Leadership Board. She is from Willard, Utah where she graduated with Honors from Box Elder High School and Bridgerland Applied Technology College with her Certified Nurses Assistant Certificate. She is a Sophomore in standing at Southern Utah University. In her spare times she enjoys reading murder mystery books, watching movies, and exercising.

Kaylee Brown

Kaylee Is the Social Network Guru on the College of Science and Engineering Leadership Board. She is from Centerville, Utah where she graduated from Viewmont High School with High Honors and EMT certification. She likes reading books, and listening to music with her awesome roommate Chelsea. She also likes long walks on the beach, holding hands, lying beneath the stars, and putting cheese on crackers. She plays the guitar, ukulele, and piano and loves serving others.

Heather Garcia

Heather represents as Special Projects Coordinator on the College of Science and Engineering Leadership Board here at SUU. Heather was born and raised in Taylorsville, Utah, where she served as Taylorsville High School Student Body President (2011-2012). Heather now spends most of her time on campus by being involved with the one of the sororities, Delta Psi Omega, as well as an active member in the College of Performing Arts. Heather loves enjoying time with friends, and just having fun.

Stephanie Godfrey

Stephanie is the Community Liaison on the College of Science and Engineering Leadership Board. She is from Syracuse, Utah. She is currently a Pre-Nursing student, and is working toward being accepted into the Nursing Program. In her free time she enjoys running, camping, hiking, reading, playing the piano, and being with friends.

Nathan Jacquez

Nathan is the Campus Liaison for publicity on the College of Science and Engineering Leadership Board. He is from Ogden, Utah where he graduated early with his Associate's Degree in General Studies from Weber State University. Nathan is part of Rural Health Scholars on campus and is currently completing the Pre-Med program as well as majoring in Nutrition and minoring in Psychology. He aspires to be a psychiatrist and enjoys learning about the brain and the disorders of the brain. Aside from learning, Nathan enjoys watching movies, reading books, hiking, swimming, and camping.

Amanda Maag

Amanda is a special projects coordinator on the leadership board. She was born in Hurricane, Utah where she has lived her whole life. She graduated high school with her associates of science degree from Dixie State College of Utah. She is now majoring in secondary art education here at SUU. She has a real passion for art and hopes that she will be able to help her future students find that same love for it. In her spare time she loves to oil paint, play tennis, have long talks, go on bike rides, sing at the top of her lungs, and spend time doing silly things with her friends and family.

Alison Schmidt

Alison is the Publicity Director for the COSE leadership board. She was born in West Jordan, Utah and lived there in the same house all her life until moving here to SUU. Ali is going into Business Management. Her dream is to one day own her own non-profit organization that enables youth with the opportunity to travel to third world countries and complete a humanitarian trip to serve locals in need. This dream came forth when she was presented with the opportunity to travel to Peru and work in an orphanage at the end of her sophomore year in high school. This trip changed her life and reinforced the fact that serving others is a huge part of her life. She also enjoys photography, creating marketing materials, cooking, traveling, and being with friends and family.

Jacob Ward

Jacob W. is a sophomore information systems major, planning on earning a minor in business and eventually a Master's of Business Administration. Jacob is the Webpage Liaison for the leadership board. He loves SUU and the wonderful opportunities available to him here. Jacob is an Idaho native, living in Chubbuck most of his life. He attended Century High School, in Pocatello, ID. In high school he participated in Men's and Concert Choirs, in which he was an aide for the choir director and representative on the choir council during his senior year. He was also an active member in Business Professionals of America, in which he qualified for nationals both years he participated. In his spare time, Jacob enjoys cooking, using social networks, and spending time with the amazing new friends he has made since moving to Cedar City.
