Math Student Named National Athlete of the Week
Math major Nate Jewkes has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week for the week of September 29, 2014, after crossing the line first at the Roy Griak Invitational and leading the Thunderbirds to a first-place finish.  Congratulations Nate!

Math Seminar
Brandon Wiggin, an SUU alumni, will talk about his graduate work after SUU.  He will also bring literature from the math and physics graduate programs at BYU.  His presentation is on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at noon in ELC 301,  Pizza will be served!

Past News & Events 2013-2014

State Math Contest
The State Math Contest will be held Monday, March 10, 2014. Registration is due February 15, 2014 (late registration due by March 2, 2014). This contest is for area students grades 7-12.

Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research
The Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research will be held February 28, 2014, at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  Proposals are due November 1, 2013.  SUU students who are presenting their research at the conference may request funding through UGRASP.

Math Department Seminar
Dr. Roger Baker of Brigham Young University will present Close encounters between the primes on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 4pm in ELC 301.
Abstract: We discuss recent progress due to Zhang and Maynard in finding a finite limit inferior of gaps in the primes. We also report on an extension of this work to the primes in a Beatty sequence.

Research  Symposium
The 5th Annual College of Science and Engineering Research Symposium will be held November 18, 2013 beginning at 5 pm.  Please join us at this showcase of student and faculty research.

Math Club Meeting
Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at 5:30pm in the conference room on the 4th floor of the ELC.  Faculty will be giving brief presentations about their research.

Homecoming Parade!
Look for the Math Club and their awesome t-shirts this Saturday, October 12, 2013.  The parade starts at 11am and runs along University Boulevard
