The Fantasticks is one of the most charming musicals of all time! With music by Harvey Schmidt and Lyrics by Tom Jones. Written in the 1960’s but set in an ambiguous time & space, The Fantasticks has an enduring power, which has helped make it the world’s longest running musical! Loosely based on Edmond Rostand’s play, Les Romanesques: Two fathers trick their children, Luisa and Matt into falling in love by feigning a feud between the two neighboring families. Their plan is going splendidly, until they realize that they need to somehow end the feud. They hire a band of travelling actors to stage an abduction of Luisa, so that Matt can heroically save her, and they can live happily ever after. All goes according to plan, until the children realize that they have been duped. After discovering the deception, the two young lovers reject their match and explore the world and discover themselves beyond the confines of their fathers’ protection. Luisa and Matt grow from their youthful illusions of Romanticism and move into the season of maturity.
