Betsy Hatfield is professional staff in the Department of Nursing at SUU and functions as Nursing Lab Specialist.
Her professional nursing career began in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas. Her other education accomplishments include a Gerontology Certificate and Educate the Educator Certification through Weber State University. Her predominate clinical practice experience has included acute nursing care in the hospital environment on Medical-Surgical Nursing Units, Cardiopulmonary Step-Down Unit and Critical Care Unit.
Betsy has 25 years of teaching experience. She was an active participant in development of the SUU Baccalaureate Nursing Program mission, vision and curriculum and has facilitated nursing lab activities since the beginning of the program in 2004. She had been a theory and clinical instructor for all first year courses in the Weber State University, Southern Utah University Cooperative Associate Degree Nursing program. For 7 years, her role included Primary Instructor for Nursing Assistant Training and instruction in Medical Transcriptionist Courses at SUU, teaching foundation content on Anatomy/Physiology, Laboratory/Diagnostic studies and Human Diseases /Surgical Procedures. She continues to be an American Heart Association Instructor providing certification courses in Basic Life Support and First Aid.
