Welcome to my home page. I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Southern Utah University. I am thrilled to be back at my home university after a year-long sabbatical in mainland China. You can read about my family's many adventures at steinsinchina.blogspot.com. This semester, I am teaching our undergraduate communication research course (COMM 3020) and our graduate qualitative research methods course (COMM 6020).
Apart from my teaching, I am also serving as our Faculty Senate President-elect, constructing a new website on public apology and working on various projects related to my interests in attack and defense rhetoric as well as my own theory of discursive responses to apologia (called antapologia). These projects include an analysis of rhetorical strategies used by students in their excuses to teachers and an analysis of Mike Daisey's fraudulent NPR report about Apple factory conditions in China.
If you have any questions for me at all, please don't hesitate to contact me.
