Trustee BiosDane O. Leavitt, of Cedar City, has worked as the president and CEO of Leavitt Group Enterprises, Inc., the parent company of The Leavitt Group, in Cedar City since 1992. The organization consists of 82 independent insurance agencies located in 11 western states. He is a 1983 honors graduate of the Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. He also received his bachelor’s degree from BYU in political science, accounting and English, after attending SUU his freshman and sophomore years. Dane has served as staff, and then Counsel to the Utah Insurance Law Revision Commission and as Special Counsel to the Office of Legislative Counsel for the State of Utah. In these capacities, he was instrumental in assisting the Utah Legislature in completing a comprehensive revision of Utah’s Insurance Code (Title 31A) in 1985 and 1986. He served as the Leavitt Group’s General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer between 1984 and 1992. His commitment to his community has been indulged with his time as president of the Cedar City Housing Authority, president of the Valley View Health Care Foundation, and vice chairman of the Southern Utah Planning Authorities Council (SUPAC). Additionally, Dane has significantly contributed to the SUU Business School as a member of its advisory board, and is a member of the SUU Center for Politics and Public Service advisory board. Dane is married to the former Ruth Marie Jolley of Salt Lake City. They are the parents of three sons and three daughters ranging in age from 10 to 21. As of the 2005-06 academic year, Dane is the vice-chair of the SUU Board of Trustees.
