Welcome to the Hispanic Center for Academic Excellence at Southern Utah University.

The Center was created at SUU in the spring of 2007. Our current goals and objectives include:

  • providing resources for Hispanics and Spanish-speakers in the community and on campus.
  • aiding in efforts to recruit more Hispanic students to SUU.
  • disseminating information to area high school students about the benefits of higher education and college entrance requirements and procedures.
  • working with the Iron County School District to ameliorate the scholastic experience and outcomes of English Language Learners in the schools.

We are excited to kick off the 2009-2010 academic year! We are in the process of moving into a new space in Room 175 of the Sharwan Smith Center.

Interpreters Club

The Hispanic Center Interpreters Club is made up of students who are fluent in both English and Spanish. Club members volunteer locally. This year, we will interpret in local schools during parent-teacher conferences. Our goal is to help individuals while providing a new link between the community of Cedar City and SUU. Dr. Rachel Kirk is the advisor. Email kirk@suu.edu for more information or to get involved.
