SUTV, the video production entity at Southern Utah University has won a prestigious Honorable Mention from The Accolade Competition. The award was given for SUTV’s videography in the one-hour documentary Canyoneering the Colorado Plateau, An Introduction to the Sport. Canyoneering the Colorado Plateau features exceptional video of the stunning southern Utah scenery and pushes the boundaries of how and where video production is possible in the remote, rugged, and relatively inaccessible slot canyons.

SUTV video producer and SUU communication professor Jon Smith shot most of the footage. He had to incorporate a variety of styles and techniques to capture video while he was swimming, scrambling, rappelling, and working his way through the narrow slot canyons. The same documentary has won several other national awards since it was produced in 2006.

Smith said “It’s great to see SUTV and SUU recognized for our video production in national competition. It’s also great to have the opportunity to show off some of southern Utah’s spectacular scenery.
