Southern Utah University will play host to some of the southwest's brightest high school seniors at a "Distinguished Scholar's Day" event to be held Friday, November 14, 2008 on campus.

The event will commence with a "mix and mingle" welcome event in the Auditorium, followed by a day of activities that includes a campus tour, an "All about college" discussion panel for parents and a variety of workshops. All scholars and their parents will then join University President Michael Benson at a banquet and awards ceremony in the R. Haze Hunter Great Hall.

Quinn Mortensen, Assistant Director of Admissions, states, "We are truly excited to have this opportunity to honor some of the best academically performing students from the West. This is truly SUU's chance to shine for these students and let them see for themselves what an amazing institution like SUU can do for their education."

While it’s obvious the scholars in attendance are well-prepared for the academic rigor of a university environment, this event is intended to help them prepare for the entire college experience – including all that goes on outside the classroom.

To this end, the day’s workshops will include discussions about on-campus housing, SUU's honors program, financial aid and scholarships, SUU's study abroad program, athletics, rural health scholars and student and campus involvement.
