Workshop at Southern Utah University to aid local Historians

An oral history workshop for authors, historians, students and genealogists will be held at Southern Utah University’s Gerald R. Sherratt Library on Wednesday, September 15, from 1-4:30 p.m. This regional workshop, led by the state’s longtime oral history administrator Kent Powell, of the Utah State Historical Society, is sponsored by the Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board and is free to the public.

Workshop sessions will cover:
• Oral history protocol
• Use of audio and digital recorders
• Hands-on activities for both recording and transcribing oral history.

Janet Seegmiller from SUU Special Collections, will also discuss SUU’s current oral history projects which include Iron County, Cedar Breaks and the employees of the Utah Parks Company.

The workshop will be held in room 002 of the Sherratt Library. Campus parking for visitors is available in the Centrum lot west of campus and the large lot across University Boulevard from the Auditorium on the northeast corner of campus.
