Southern Utah University’s Convocation Lecture Series in conjunction with the Wells Fargo Executive Speaker Series is pleased to announce John Deckys, entrepreneur and credit expert, will be coming to campus to deliver a presentation on credit profiles and getting out of debt.

His presentation will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 11:30 a.m. in the SUU Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Over the past decade, financial institutions, insurance companies and employers have increasingly used credit profiles and scores to determine not just a person’s financial capacity to borrow but also what their financial character is like and the likelihood that the individual will be a profitable customer.

This trend has done nothing but increase over the past several years to the point that credit is now one of the most widely used pieces of financial data in our lives.

Additionally, with the implosion of the financial markets over the past several years, individual and business debt loads, debt structures and credit profiles are now being analyzed at a much more granular level. This new found oversight in a market environment where interest rates for consumers and businesses are seeing upward pressure, and the availability of credit is contracting, is making it very difficult for those businesses and consumers to properly manage their cash flows and stay solvent.

This presentation will explain the details and rationale behind the consumer FICO Scoring model (used by most major financial institutions), as well as discuss the stakeholders in credit scoring, and its financial impact and inner workings.

Deckys will also discuss how to build, manage and manipulate credit scores.
