SUU Preschool Cleans House with Saturday Yard Sale

In preparation for its big move this fall, the SUU Preschool is cleaning house, with a yard sale to boot.

This Saturday morning, July 7, the preschool will host a yard sale in the hopes of making their move to North Elementary a little easier. The sale will feature miscellaneous items related to child care that are no longer needed. The sale will be held outside of the current SUU Preschool building at 123 South 300 West in Cedar City from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A variety of used equipment, including highchairs, games and books, will be for sale. Outdoor play equipment such as climbing bars and a trampoline will also be available.

Buyers will need to move and load their purchases independently as staff will not be available to assist. Some dismantling may also be necessary in order to remove larger items from the basement.

Beginning this fall 2012 term, the SUU Preschool—a longstanding community favorite for early childhood education—will operate out of Cedar City’s North Elementary School, as part of the University’s new educational partnership, creating the North Elementary STEAM School. Through STEAM, North Elementary will remain a public school within the Iron County School District, but will provide a unique educational experience, with instructional emphasis on cross-disciplinary instruction to engage students in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

The SUU Preschool’s new accommodations at North will provide additional learning as well as storage space, which will allow for more flexibility and creativity in the school’s day-to-day operations. Such a benefit is vital as the preschool serves a professional development capacity for SUU’s early childhood pre-service teachers.

Working under the state of Utah’s approved early childhood curricula and with the guidance of two early childhood licensed educators, these SUU students prepare for professions in early childhood education by planning and facilitating the preschool’s daily lesson plans and activities—a way to showcase and practice all they have learned.

As with the yard sale, which is open to the local community, the SUU Preschool at North Elementary is open to the general public, though early registration is recommended, as spots fill quickly. The preschool runs separate morning and afternoon classes for parents to choose from. Four-year-old children are eligible to attend the SUU Preschool the year prior to kindergarten.
