Thunderbirds have migrated back to Southern Utah University and the SUU Student Association’s (SUUSA) will greet students with a robust Welcome Week that will take students to the streets of Cedar City for Paint the Town Red on Thursday, August 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

The street fair, which shuts down Main Street between 200 North and Center Street, is a family friendly event with vendors and activities for all ages. Literally painting the town red, anyone who attends can help paint a mural located between Pastry Pub and Centro Pizza on University Blvd.

Along with an opportunity to win prizes and score amazing deals from local businesses, Paint the Town Red features three bands performing right on Main Street; Forest Eyes, Foreign Figures and Van Lady Love.

Between musical performances, student clubs will take to the stage to entertain the crowds. Performing will be the Ballroom Dance Company, Hip Hop Club, Belly Dancing Club and Swing Dance Club.

It’s not just music and dancing that will excite event goers, lining the streets will be southern Utah’s favorite food trucks; Waffle Love, Shuckos, Tiki Shack, Rock ‘n’ Egg Roll and Fat Zeus.

In its third year, Paint the Town Red provides an opportunity for all students to sign up to one of the 180 plus SUU clubs. An opportunity according to Sara Fallentine, SUUSA vice president of clubs and student leadership, can’t be missed.

“It’s a great way to get involved on campus. Even if you’re not into going to events or holding a leadership position, you can still find something you’re passionate about and find friends with similar interests to yours,” she explained.

Erin Hulse, SUUSA club director and vice president for Orchesis Modern Dance Company, mirrors Fallentine’s comments and went on to say about the importance of attending Paint the Town Red, “As a club member Paint the Town Red allows students to find out who we are as a club and to see all the cool opportunities on campus.”
