Article IV – Meetings

General meetings will be held at least once a month, but preferably more often, during the school year. In the 2008-9 academic year, general meetings will be held the first and third Wednesday of the month at 4:00 pm.  The Executive committee will meet at least every two weeks for administrative purposes.  For the 2008-9 academic year, the executive committee will meet the first and third Wednesday of the month at 4:00 pm. All meetings and events are open to the public. Any anthropology club member can call a meeting for any reason.

Article V – Executive Board

The officers of this club shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The duties of the officers are outlined below:

President: Preside over meetings of the club and serve as chairperson of the executive committee. Act as official representation of the club at other meetings and events. Coordinate and organize committees for special events.  If the President is unable to meet the terms of office, then the presidency is subject to recall and a new presidency will be voted in.

Vice President: Preside at the meeting of the club and the executive committee in the absence of the president.

Secretary: Record and maintain minutes of all meetings and send out email announcements to club members.

Treasurer: Handle all financial transactions of the club. Maintain thorough and accurate records of transactions. Produce financial reports as required by the club.

Elections for members of the executive board will be held at the first meeting of each academic year (see article VI).  Should an officer, due to resignation or impeachment, be unable to fulfill the duration of his or her term of office, the remaining members of the executive board will call for nominations and a special election.  Provided that the requirements for a quorum are met, a simple majority vote by club members present at the nomination and election meeting will determine the new officer.

Article VI Elections

The President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer shall serve for a period of one year.  Executive officers are limited to serving 2 consecutive terms.  Officers shall be elected during the first meeting of August/September.  All nominees for office must be enrolled as students at Southern Utah University.  Club members may either nominate themselves for office or be nominated by their peers.  Nominees will give brief statements of their qualifications to the general membership at the first meeting of the year.  Voting by secret ballot will then take place at that same meeting.  Officers will be elected by a simple plurality of the voting members present, providing that the qualifications for quorum (see Article VI, Section F) are met. In the case of a tie, a runoff election will be held.  A simple majority vote will determine the winner.  In the case of a second tie, a coin toss will determine the winner.  During the term of their office, officers can only be removed by impeachment or resignation. Acts definable as impeachment are: the failure to meet previously ascribed duties, the declaration of mutiny by the main body of the club, or if club members can demonstrate an excessive lack of faith in the officers.   In order to impeach a club officer, quorum must be met and the act of impeachment must pass with the approval of 2/3rds of club members present at the impeachment hearing.  Impeachment proceedings must be announced at least one week prior to the meeting at which the ‘trial’ will occur, must be well publicized to the club members,  and must not be scheduled during vacation periods.  Except in the case of impeachment trials, a simple majority vote (provided quorum is met) will decide all other matters of club business.  Quorum shall consist of 75% of the executive committee and at least 10% of the active general membership.

Article VII – Funds and Finances

This club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or otherwise, to its directors or membership except as payment for services rendered in the form of wages, salaries, or incentives.  Should the organization dissolve, leaving residual assets, these funds shall be distributed back to any contributors.  If any expenditures of funds are deemed questionable or inappropriate, then it must be put into a written proposal submitted to the Executive Committee for review. The initiatory body must be present at the following club meetings:  the submission, the discussion as a reading item, the vote on the validity of the proposal .
