Club Elections: Craig Randall was elected as Club President and Kendra Davis, Amber Jacobsen, and Jenna Andersen agreed to serve as his fellow club officers.
Club Picnic/BBQ: Emily and Craig announced the 2nd annual Anthro. Club picnic/bbq to be held on Saturday, Sept. 12th, at 5 pm in West Canyon Park. They requested potluck contributions and volunteer help to set up and clean up.
Service Project: Amber Jacobsen told the club about the non-profit organization Heifer International and suggested that this would be a great organization for the Anthro. Club to support. Members agreed to take this on as our 2009 service project. We established a fundraising goal of $1000 and brainstormed about how to raise money. We decided to sponsor an international dinner/music night at SUU, with all cover charges and donations going directly to Heifer International. If we can obtain sufficient donations from local businesses, we’ll include a silent auction. Some members volunteered to visit local businesses to see about the possibility of setting out donation jars.
Saturday Farmer’s Market: The Anthro club will participate in the Saturday Farmer’s market on Sept. 19th, from 9 am to 1 pm. We will sell bread baked by Craig’s wife Anastasia, aloe vera plants donated by the History and Sociology dept., and any baked goods made by club members. Proceeds from the sale will go towards our service project (see above) and towards supporting club activities.
Movie Night: International/Anthropology Movie Night will once again be a regular club activity. Send movie ideas to Kendra Davis or Emily Dean.
Field Trips: We are planning a Saturday fieldtrip (probably on 9/26 or 10/3) to visit local archaeological sites.
