Math/Math Education

Mathematics education majors train to teach mathematics courses in grades 7-12 in both public and private schools. Fluency in mathematics is a critical skill in our modern-day society where technology influences daily life. Mathematics is of the highest priority in current educational curriculum, and those who teach children to understand and to apply mathematics are preparing children with problem solving tools used in numerous professions.

  • Mathematics teachers are in high demand, and 100% of our mathematics education graduates are offered teaching positions.
  • Mathematics Education majors gain a strong background in mathematics by taking courses nearly equivalent to general mathematics majors.
  • The Mathematics Department faculty are models of excellent teaching and take personal interest in preparing future teachers.
  • We offer excellent campus employment of SUU math students as graders, math lab tutors, teaching assistants and research assistants.

"I loved my experience at SUU. The math department has outstanding professors who really care about your success. The great thing about SUU is that it is small enough to get one-on-one attention, which really helped me to succeed."
