Outdoor Recreation in Parks and tourism

The Outdoor Recreation in Parks and Tourism (ORPT) degree prepares students to be professional land stewards in three different tracks: Public Lands Leadership and Management, Outdoor Education, and Outdoor Recreation Tourism. This interdisciplinary program offers students the opportunity to pursue careers in state and national land management agencies, outdoor education centers and tourism organizations. With a growing professional demand in the outdoor recreation industry, we offer a hands-on degree program that actively serves the region.

  • SUU is within ½ day’s drive of at least 11 national parks, national monuments and recreational areas. Few universities in the country can boast such close contact to such a magnificent landscape
  • In the next ten years, there will be more retiring land management agency personnel than there are qualified replacements
  • Hands-on, place-based education gives students real world experiences serving the outdoor recreation interest of Southwest Utah
  • Our average class size of 28 students allows students and professors to interact on a personal level
