Dr. Willem van Schalkwyk

Willem van Schalkwyk A gold medalist and prize winner in several national and international competitions, Namibian pianist Willem van Schalkwyk has appeared in Africa as soloist with such orchestras as the Namibia National Symphony Orchestra, Cape Town Symphony, and Johannesburg Symphony, and in the United States with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at the National Music Camp in Interlochen. He has also been heard as recitalist in Austria, France, South Africa, Namibia, and the United States.

Born in South Africa, Van Schalkwyk received early piano instruction with Valerie van Biljon at the Namibia College of the Arts, where he was awarded the Prize of Excellence in 1998. Later study followed in the United States with Irene Peery-Fox at Brigham Young University, and with Joseph Banowetz at the University of North Texas.
