SUU Department of Theatre Arts and Dance Announces New Faculty

(Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah) The SUU Department of Theatre Arts and Dance announced the appointment of designer Michael Harvey to the faculty beginning in the fall semester of 2007. Mr. Harvey enjoys experimenting with new media and technologies and often incorporates these elements into live theatre through the use of animation and other special effects.
“Professor Harvey brings extensive experience as a theatrical designer and educator,” notes Shauna Mendini, Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. “He is proficient in the latest computer technology and can assist students in meeting the current demands of the design and technical industry.” Bill Byrnes, Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts adds, “Mr. Harvey’s skill in theatre design and technology will continue the tradition of quality offered by our Theatre Arts and Dance faculty.”
Michael Harvey has designed scenery, lighting, and sound for over 100 productions. He holds an MFA in Scenic Design and Theatre Technology from Wayne State University Mr. Harvey comes to Southern Utah University after spending eight years teaching and designing at Central Lakes College in Minnesota. He is an active member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology’s Education Commission and presents at the USITT national conference on a regular basis.
