PART TWO: RETAIN THIS PAGE FOR YOUR OWN RECORDS. Bring this and any other instructions you will receive with you to High School Geology Field Experience.
- Students attending High School Geology Field Experience at Southern Utah University are subject to the admission standards of Southern Utah University.
- This is a field trip and we will be camping for the entire time you are in the course.
- As a student in the High School Geology Field Experience, you will need certification from a Physician that you are physically able to participate in regular class activities that range from hiking at 2,000 feet in 100+ temperatures to hiking at 10,000 feet. Most class work is done near 6,000 feet elevation and temperatures in the 80's and 90's, with Relative Humidity typically less than 20%. Class is scheduled from approximately 7:30 AM until 6:00 PM , with some longer days.
- As a course member, you must notify the Director of any reason, temporary or permanent, why you should, or can, not participate in the regularly scheduled work for any given day. You MUST tell each staff member of any health conditions you have, i.e. Diabetes, allergies to stings and bites, etc., that could be potentially life threatening and/or require immediate medical attention. The staff members are not certified in first-aid, but might be able to get help in some way. Most exercises are conducted within two hours of a hospital.
- You should consult with your physician as to advisability of obtaining inoculations for Tetanus and Typhoid in advance of arriving at High School Geology Field Experience. Cuts, scrapes, and flying rock chips are reasons you may consider the Tetanus shots. The temptation to drink from an open stream on a hot day may be reason to consider the Typhoid shots.
- You MUST arrange for your own Health and Life Insurance.
- Other instructions will be issued from time to time during the course. These may include wearing safety glasses and hard hats. There is a total ban on PETS, non-prescription DRUGS, ALCOHOL, AND FIREARMS during the High School Geology Field Experience. Activities that threaten to harm or that tend to irritate others are also banned. We will be together for seven days traveling in 15-passenger vans. Disobeying any instruction or High School Geology Field Experience rule stated or established before or during High School Geology Field Experience is grounds for dismissal and/or loss of credit and/or fees and deposits.
