Proposed Itinerary

SUNDAY
Assemble at the Las Vegas (NV) Airport and depart by noon . Visit the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic unconformity on Frenchman Mountain on east side of Las Vegas . Discuss the significance of "The Great Unconformity", between the 1.5 billion year old Proterozoic and 0.6 billion year old Phanerozoic rocks. Travel north on U.S. 93 (The Great Basin Highway) to Great Basin National Park (N.P.) at Baker, Nevada (camp for the night).

MONDAY
Tour Lehman Cave , study the geology of Great Basin N.P. Study geology in the metamorphic core complex in the Northern Snake Range north of the park. Overnight in Great Basin N.P.

TUESDAY
Visit the Painter Springs Intrusive (Jurassic) in the House Range . Study shelf environment sediments and collect Lower Ordovician age fossils at Fossil Mountain in the Confusion Range . Study the Crystal Peak Caldera in the Wah Wah Mountains . Travel to Cedar City to spend the night.

WEDNESDAY
Study rollover thrust features produced during the Sevier Orogeny (Late Cretaceous) along the Colorado Plateaux-Great Basin Transition Zone. Learn simple field mapping. Visit the Southern Utah University campus and Shakespeare Festival Green Show. Spend the night in Cedar City .

THURSDAY
Visit the Permian-Triassic Unconformity. Visit Zion N.P. with ancient sand dunes, then visit Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park near Kanab , UT and study modern sand dunes. Spend the night a Kodachrome Basin State Park near Cannonville , UT.

FRIDAY
Visit Bryce Canyon N.P. Study volcanic features on Cedar Mountain . Spend the night in Cedar City .

SATURDAY
Travel to Las Vegas and catch planes to return home.

This proposed schedule might be altered at the discretion of the leaders due to unforeseen circumstances.
