REQUIREMENTS and FEES:

To register for this course you must:

•  Be a Inservice Earth Science Teacher or obtain Dr. Lohrengel's permission.

•  Complete the application form.

•  Include one-page essay why you want to attend the course.

•  Include a letter of recommendation from your Chief Academic Officer.

•  Include a $50 deposit (refundable if you are not accepted into the course, but not refundable if you are accepted).

Inservice Geoscience Teacher Field Trip 2004 will cost $900 (double) or $1000 (single and limited number) Includes:

•  SUU Tuition and student fees

•  Transportation in 15-passenger vans from Las Vegas , NV airport while in class

•  Lodging in motels or dormitories during the course

•  Field prepared meals from noon Sunday through breakfast Saturday

•  Three hours of credit for GEOL 5500 - Selected Field Trips

•  Appropriate entry fees during the course

•  Handouts and use of appropriate equipment

What you must do for the three semester hour course credit:

•  Actively participate in the week long field trip

•  Maintain a field journal to be submitted with a typed report about the field experience within two weeks of the completion of the course

•  Write two detailed classroom lesson plans utilizing the information and materials gathered during the field experience and post them on the class's webpage for mutual use.

What you need to supply:

•  Transportation between your "home" and Las Vegas , NV airport

•  Personal equipment and gear (field clothing and footwear, hydration equipment, camera, note taking equipment, rock hammer, safety goggles, hand lens).

Working/Traveling Conditions - We will be operating at elevations of 2,000 to 7,000 feet, daytime temperatures 85°F to 105°F, nighttime temperatures may drop into the 50's. This region is an intense desert and sun burn and desication are constant problems. Most of the plants are spiny and very unforgiving. The furthest we will be from medical care is about two hours.
