*The total student fee charge for a full time student (10 to 25 credits for fee purposes) is $361.00. The following is a breakdown of those fees with descriptions:
Braithwaite Gallery $0.50
The student fees we receive allow the Braithwaite Gallery to offer art exhibitions and associated lectures, events and educational programming without charging admission. In addition to our traveling art exhibitions, the gallery hosts Graduating Seniors' BFA exhibitions, SUU Art & Design Faculty exhibitions and the annual Southern Utah Art Invitational Exhibition. The fees also help care for the over 1000 works of art owned by SUU that are rotated throughout offices, classrooms and common areas on campus.
The Building portion of student fees is used to cover the ongoing expense of maintenance and operations related to the function of the Sharwan Smith Center and the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA). This includes scheduled maintenance, custodial services, utilities, event support, staffing, administration, repairs, replacements, and upgrades that relate specifically to the use and function of these buildings.
The Athletics portion of student fees helps fund the day-to-day operations of Southern Utah University's Athletics Department. The revenue generated from student fees accounts for approximately 12.5-percent of Athletics operating budget.
Campus Recreation $5.00
The Campus Recreation student fee covers student wages for the PE facility during open rec hours, wages for student workers for Intramural sports, and all the equipment for the facility and Intramurals.
The Counseling Student Fee is essential in providing Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) with the financial resources needed to provide our daily services. Revenue is used to pay for direct services we offer such as individual counseling, group counseling, the biofeedback lab, and outreach and prevention services. Revenue also helps us conduct needed research into changing student needs, program development, and continuing education and training for our counselors. Finally, many of our office expenses are also covered through the student fee.
The Student Computing Fee supports a variety of technology services for students:
Student ID (T-Card) $1.50
The Student ID fee of $1.50 provides student identification cards for all students. The fee is used for the production of the T-card, supplies, equipment, software updates and service contract for the card machines. Student ID technicians are also paid through this fee. The T-card is required to check out materials at the Library, entrance to Fitness Center, and used to gain admission to SUU Athletic events and student activities. It is also used as a key for students in the residence halls and at various dining options on campus including T-Bird Circle. Students receive one card per academic year at no charge. The replacement fee is $5.00 for lost or damaged cards.
Sharwan Smith Student Center Activity Fee $7.50
The Sharwan Smith Student Center activity fee provides the operational and programming budget for the Student Involvement and Leadership office, the Cheer and Stunt Team and supplements the programming budget for the R.E.A.L. Peer Mentor program and the Women and Families Center. It also funds student employees that serve as night managers for the Sharwan Smith Student Center and has financed some capital items such as replacement furniture for the student lounge spaces in the building.
Community Engagement $3.50
Student fees help support Community Engagement Center programs like Wee Be Groovin' and Wee Swim, After School Sports, the Special Olympics and Service Clubs, Make A Difference Day, the 9/11 Day of Service and a variety of other service opportunities open to any SUU student. Fees also help maintain programs like Bread & Soup Nite and the HOPE Pantry. Because of fees, the Community Engagement Center is also able to provide some assistance to students and campus clubs and organizations who are sponsoring their own service events.
The music fee allows students to attend music department concerts and recitals free of charge. The fee does not even cover the cost of one student ticket, which is $4. We offer over 30 concerts and recitals per semester.
University Journal $6.00
Student Fee money serves two functions with the Journal: it helps train journalists and others who are interested in the publishing and web industries, and it keeps the community informed about SUU students and activities through the student-produced University Journal and suunews.com. The student staff produces the University Journal newspaper and the suunews.com website and distributes the newspaper on campus and keeps the website as current as possible to keep our community informed.
Theatre Arts and Dance $3.00
Student fees for the Department of Theatre and Dance allow SUU students to attend each theatre performance and dance concert FREE. The fees are used for production costs including materials to build sets and costumes, as well as install lighting and sound equipment for each production.
Outdoor Recreation $8.00
The outdoor recreation fee covers student wages for the Outdoor Center student employees, outdoor equipment and upkeep, free student access to the P.E. building climbing wall, the SUU rope course, and funding for outdoor adventures.
Student Association $24.50
Student fees for the Student Association are divided between the branches of student government under direction of the SUUSA Executive Council. This includes all SUUSA activities, clubs and organizations, and publicity as well as supporting the president’s cabinet and academic senate initiatives.
