Freshman Scholarships

Freshman Priority Deadline- All Fall Semester applicants that complete the application for admission before March 1st each year will automatically be considered for academic scholarships. The application for admission requires the following: admissions application, application fee, official high school transcripts, and ACT/SAT scores.

  • President's Four Year Renewable Scholarship - Full Tuition
    • Admissions Index of 123+ required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.5 GPA required for renewal
  • Founders' Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $3,000 per year
    • Admissions Index between 117 and 122.9 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
  • Deans' Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $2,000 per year
    • Admissions Index between 111 and 116.9 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.0 GPA required for renewal
  • Centurium Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $1,000 per year
    • Admissions Index between 105 and 110.9 required for award
    • Admissions Cumulative SUU 3.0 GPA required for renewal
  • President's Non-Resident Four Year Renewable Scholarship - Full Tuition
    • Admissions Index of 123+ required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.5 GPA required for renewal
  • Non-Resident "Move Up" Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $12,458 per year
    • Admissions Index between 106 and 122.9 required for award (or a high school GPA of 3.2 or higher for non traditional age students)
    • Cumulative SUU 3.0 GPA required for renewal
  • Centurium Non-Resident Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $5,500 per year
    • Admissions Index between 100 and 105.9 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.0 GPA required for renewal
  • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Four Year Renewable Scholarship - $9,750
    • Admissions Index between 90 and 105.9 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 2.0 GPA required for renewal

Are you a nonresident student? Did one or both of your parents or grandparents graduate from SUU? If so, you may be eligible for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. To apply, students must:

  • Be admitted and enrolled as a first time, nonresident student at Southern Utah University
  • Have at least one parent or grandparent who graduated with an associate's degree or higher from Southern Utah University (Southern Utah State College, College of Southern Utah, etc.)

Please note: If you accept an Alumni Legacy Scholarship, you will not be eligible to gain Utah Residency. For more information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (435) 586-7735.

Alumni Legacy Scholarships awards are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. The award is a four year renewable scholarship of $11,500 per year.

Specific legislation regarding the Alumni Legacy Scholarship.

The priority deadline for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship is March 1st each year. Apply.

The SUU Leadership and Involvement Scholarship is only for high school students who have not received a Freshman Academic Scholarship or Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition discount. In addition, attending an SUU Leadership Weekend does not guarantee receiving an Leadership and Involvement Scholarship. Complete the application by March 1, 2014.


Transfer Student Scholarships

  • Two Year Renewable Scholarship - Full Tuition
    • Transfer GPA of 3.7 or greater required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.5 GPA required for renewal
  • Two Year Renewable Scholarship - $3,000 per year
    • Transfer GPA between 3.4 and 3.69 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
  • Two Year Renewable Scholarship - $1,000 per year
    • Transfer GPA between 3.0 and 3.39 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.0 GPA required for renewal
  • Resident Snow College Transfer Two Year Renewable Scholarship - $3,000 per year
    • Transfer GPA between 3.25 and 3.69 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.3 GPA required for renewal
  • President's Non-Resident Two Year Transfer Scholarship - Full Tuition
    • Transfer GPA greater than or equal to 3.7 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.5 GPA required for renewal
  • Two Year Renewable Scholarship - $12,458 per year
    • Transfer GPA between 3.2 and 3.69 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.2 GPA required for renewal
  • Two Year Renewable Scholarship - $5,500 per year
    • Transfer GPA between 3.0 and 3.19 required for award

Graduate Student Scholarships

  • Non-Resident Incoming Graduate Student Two Year Renewable - 100% Differential Waiver
    • GPA greater than or equal to 3.2 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.2 GPA required for renewal
  • Non-Resident Transfer Graduate Student Two Year Renewable - 100% Differential Waiver
    • GPA greater than or equal to 3.2 required for award
    • Cumulative SUU 3.2 GPA required for renewal

Current Student Scholarships

For students who will be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior for the upcoming 2014-15 year. The application deadline has passed for this scholarship. Stay tuned for information for the 2015-16 year.

Other Scholarships

International scholarships are available to new undergraduate students and can be obtained through the International Admissions Office. Contact the International Admissions Office.

To be considered you must complete the admissions process by May 1, 2015.

Scholarship Housing is a partial housing award redeemable through the Dixie & Anne Leavitt Foundation. If awarded, the scholarship will cover 75% of your rent and you will be responsible for the remaining 25%. The amount of the rent and scholarship will not be known until you have been assigned an apartment by Leavitt Land. Applications for scholarship housing are accepted online starting November 1st with a priority deadline of December 31st for the upcoming academic year. The final deadline is March 1st. The application deadline for the 2014-15 year has passed.

Some organizations offer educational funding which must be filtered through our office if you are receiving federal aid. Organizations that offer such funds may be (but are not limited to) the following: high schools, churches, employers, clubs to which you or your parents belong (Rotary, Elks, Daughters of the American Revolution, etc.), organizations for which you have done volunteer work, and possible future employers.

You may also seek private scholarships through websites such as http://newbeginningscholarship.com/new/ or http://www.zinch.com/. DO NOT PAY FOR ASSISTANCE IN FINDING SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL AID. We can offer the same services for free through our office. Please contact Nellie Lee for additional information on private scholarships.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

  • HB144 Waiver Request - Any student other than a non-immigrant, who meets the qualifications listed on this form  shall be exempt from paying the non-resident portion of total tuition at Southern Utah University, as per House Bill 144.

Defer A Scholarship

This form is required for students with a scholarship who will be taking an approved leave of absence.

Appeal a Scholarship

The scholarship appeal process allows students to appeal a decision regarding their institutional scholarship. The appeal process provides an opportunity for students to explain extenuating circumstances that contributed to missed deadlines or failure to meet GPA requirements. This appeal cannot be used for scholarship housing or general scholarships.
