Degree Audits / Change of Major/Minor
DEGREE AUDITS
A Degree Audit contains all courses a student has earned from SUU plus accepted courses from other institutions. To schedule an audit, contact your academic advisor, or for more information call Kristin Wiggins in the Registrar’s Office at (435) 586-7715.
Important:
- Audits run by students are NOT considered official and may be inaccurate.
- If you attended SUU before Fall Semester 1998, you will have quarter hours in addition to semester hours and you MUST meet with your advisor for an accurate degree evaluation. The audit will not compensate for quarter hours and will display inaccurate totals and may even indicate requirements are completed when they, in fact, are not.
How to run a degree audit:
- Login to mySUU Portal
- Click on Student Records
- Click on the Degree Evaluation link
- Verify that your major(s), catalog year, minor(s), and concentration(s) displayed are correct
- Click on the Generate New Evaluation link at the bottom of the screen
- Check the radio button for either General Requirements or Detail Requirements and click Submit
How to read the audit:
- General Requirements
- This is the best option to view if you are filling out graduation papers or are wondering where your classes fall in terms of how many credits you have toward your major, minor, electives, etc.
- This view, however, does not show you which classes you still have left to complete. It only shows you where the classes you have taken fit into the requirements.
- Detail Requirements
- This is a more complicated option and is more difficult to read.
- This is the best option to view when planning your schedule for the upcoming semesters. It shows not only what you have already completed, but also what you have left to complete before earning your degree.
Pay attention to:
- …which “entry term,” or catalog year, has been selected. General Education, Major, and Minor requirements may change from year to year, so make sure the correct catalog year has been selected. You must choose a catalog for a term in which you were registered for classes at SUU.
- …the ANDs and ORs. To the left of the degree requirements will either be an And or an Or indicating whether a listed class is required or whether there is an option between that class and another (or others).
- …which classes are included in the audit. Depending on which term is chosen, the audit will include or exclude the classes the student is registered for during the current or upcoming semesters. These classes are indicated with an asterisk where the grade should be and an “R” to the right of that.
- …the text written above each area as it is displayed.
How to run a “What-If”:
This option helps students explore how their earned credit hours match up against degree requirements other than their current ones.
- Click on the What-If Evaluation link at the bottom of the screen.
- Select the academic catalog you are using for your requirements
- Select the major you would like to have evaluated
- Select the department from the drop-down list
- Select the concentration or emphasis (if applicable). (Note: Teaching certification degrees must always have “Teaching” selected as the concentration in order to run properly. Also, if there is a choice of concentration, like the Forensic emphasis for the criminal justice degree, you must either select that emphasis or select “General” to indicate no emphasis, otherwise the evaluation will not run properly.)
- Select a minor (if applicable or desired)
- Select a second major (if applicable or desired)
- Click “Run Evaluation”
- Click on “Detail Requirements.” This option will show you what you have completed and what you still have left to complete to earn the selected degree.
