As you know, a new influenza virus (H1N1 or swine flu) has been spreading since early summer. At this time, the H1N1 influenza virus does not appear to make people any sicker than the influenza viruses we normally see every year.
Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), the American College Health Association (ACHA), and local health department guidelines and recommendations; we have been making plans and preparations in case this new influenza virus affects our campus this year.
At this time:
- If you become ill with the symptoms of the flu stay home. Follow SUU policy and procedures for illness. Encourage others (students and co-workers) to stay home if they are ill with flu symptoms.
- Call your health care provider prior to visiting them, and let them know you have flu symptoms.
- Be familiar with the CDC H1N1 web site which has the latest information on the H1N1 flu outbreak, how to care for a sick person, and when to seek medical help.
