University 1000, First Year Seminar – a one-semester program – is designed to provide a comprehensive experience to orient students further to Southern Utah University, its functions and its expectations for academic success. The one-hour course introduces students to University resources like attentive academic advising, campus personnel and services, and opportunities for social involvement and responsibility.
Through the course, entering students set goals and develop strategies to meet those goals. The University seeks to recognize, reward, and advocate for desirable outcomes. By providing intensive support for new students during their first semester, Southern Utah University encourages the values stated in the University Mission Statement and promotes a successful academic future for each student.
The courses meet one hour each week in groups of about 25 and are taught by either faculty or advisers. Some courses utilize Peer Leaders to assist the instructor in meeting student needs.
