Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination and applies to public and private educational institutions receiving federal funds.
It reads: “No person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any academic, extracurricular, research, occupational training, or other education program or activity operated by a recipient that receives federal financial assistance.”
While Title IX is most often viewed through the lens of equity in athletics, the legislation applies to all areas of the University experience. The Office of Civil Rights requires the University to designate one or more employees to coordinate its efforts to comply with Title IX and to notify students, employees and interested parties of such designations.
On the campus of Southern Utah University the following individuals are charged with coordinating Title IX efforts:
