Run for an office
ANYONE interested in getting involved with the SUUSA student government is welcome to volunteer. There are always various committees, from activities to academics, which students can help out with throughout the year. Stop by the SUUSA offices (2nd floor of the rotunda) to sign up. If you want to hold an office in SUUSA, there are a few different ways that you can get involved.
- Executive Council (EC) members, run for elected positions and are voted in by the majority opinion of the entire student body.
- Senators, run for elected positions and are voted in by the majority opinion of the students within their college.
- Delegates, run for elected positions and are voted in by the majority opinion of the club members within their category.
- Cabinet and Student Activities Board (STAB) members apply for an appointed position and are appointed by the EC members following the general election.
- Justices apply for an appointed position and are appointed by the Student Body President whenever a vacancy occurs in office.
To run for an elected office you must:
- Fill out a candidacy declaration form
- Submit it to the Election Committee Chairperson in the SUUSA offices
- Read and agree to follow the Elections By-Laws and uphold the SUUSA constitution
- Attend candidate meeting to learn about putting up posters, selecting a platform, attending debates and forums, etc.
General elections typically take place in March for the following academic year. For a copy of the Election By-Laws, click here.
To apply for an appointed position you must:
- Fill out an application form
- Submit to Deniece Allred in the SUUSA offices by Friday, November 30, 2007
- Read and agree to uphold the SUUSA constitution
- Attend an interview with the SUUSA Executive Board members on December 3rd.
Appointments for positions typically take place at the end of March or beginning of April (after the general elections have taken place) for the following academic year.
