Southern Utah University's Honors Program provides enrichment opportunities for exceptionally talented, creative, and academically committed students in a friendly, informal and interdisciplinary undergraduate experience. The program connects students with SUU's best faculty through small classes and participation in hand-on education. Students learn in a collaborative environment where their ideas and research matter.
Honors students that are fully engaged, earn 21-credit hours of honors coursework, and complete either an Honors Experiential Education project or Honors Thesis will graduate with University Honors. This nationally recognized distinction indicates the student has completed an enhanced and challenging undergraduate experience.

Naomi Beatty, a junior honors student from Hurricane, Utah, shared four advantages of completing the honors program.
1. Special accommodations. The honors program has smaller class sizes, special living residencies, a computer lab and study area in the library, undergraduate research grants, early registration and lots of academic and cultural extra-curricular activities.
2. Learn from the best. You get to learn from some of the best professors on campus with some of the most driven students on campus. Because the honors program requires you to go the “extra mile”, only students willing to work hard will be in the program.
3. More job opportunities. Graduating with honors looks good on your resume which improves job opportunities and possible graduate school acceptance. You will gain life-long connections that can get you into the workforce quicker than the average student.
4. Improves quality of life. The program enhances your time management skills, helps improve your critical thinking, makes you a life long learner, and increases your passion for education.
“The Honors Program teaches you that it’s not about what you have to do,” said Beatty. “It’s about what you get to do.”
Here are the requirements: Applicants need a 3.8 high school GPA, a 27 composite ACT score, have graduated in the top 10% of their class, and a real passion for learning. To apply fill out and submit the online application on the honors website here: https://www.suu.edu/honors/apply.html. You’ll be notified soon after whether or not you’ve been accepted into the program.
