Bob Schieffer, Commencement Speaker

Emmy-award winning political commentator and TV journalist Bob Schieffer is Southern Utah University’s 2017 Commencement speaker on April 28, 2017. SUU recently met with Schieffer in his Washington D.C. office at CBS to ask about his life, the current political situation and advice for graduating students.
In this three-part interview, Schieffer offers sage tokens of advice and wisdom intermixed with stories of a career spanning more than four decades. Questions were provided by students, faculty, staff and community members when President Scott L Wyatt posted a request on his Facebook page.
Schieffer worked for CBS News covering every political convention since the 1968 Democratic Convention and 14 Presidential inaugurations including the recent inauguration of President Donald Trump.
In regards to the current state of news media, Schieffer says, “We are in the midst of a communication revolution. We must listen with our hearts and we’ve got to start talking to one another.”
