Southern Utah University’s Bruce Barclay has been recognized as the 2019 Alan Burke Mail Manager of the Year. The prestigious award was presented to Bruce during the Association of Rocky Mountain College and University Mail Services (ARMCUMS) annual conference in September.
ARMCUMS is an association of western region mail professionals who ensure the best mailing services possible to their individual institutions. The goal of the association is to improve campus mailing services while reducing costs in operations. According to the National Association of College and University Mail Services, Bruce was nominated for the award on the merits of outstanding leadership and management of the mail services at a higher education institution.
“This award is huge for me. Not only does it give my work recognition within the organization but it also validates what I’ve done in my career to really try and leave the SUU mailing service better than I found it,” said Bruce. “I love the environment here, the students are wonderful. I get to learn every day and teach students the value of hard work.”
Starting at SUU in 2003 as an assistant manager and quickly filling the role of manager only one year later, Bruce has been dedicated to overseeing the receiving and postal operations for nearly 16 years. It has been no small task to establish a program that smoothly operates a fully functioning post office, employs almost 20 students and covers five delivery routes including SUU’s 90 different departments.
