Whatever a student’s degree goals might be, summer semester at Southern Utah University can help achieve them. Taking classes in the summer helps students save both time and money, while still receiving the same high-quality instruction from the same world-class professors as they do in the fall and spring semesters.
Can I Afford Summer Semester?
While it saves students money in the long run, many wonder if they can afford summer semester now. Many college students take the summer to work and save money for the upcoming year. And the additional expense of another semester can seem daunting when living on a college budget. However, taking classes during summer semester is more affordable than you think.
The summer semesters follow the same tuition rates as fall and spring semesters, with one notable exception: all in-state and out-of-state students receive the in-state tuition rate, regardless of whether you are an out-of-state student or not. This means that staying for summer could save you a lot of money and help you finish your degree faster.
Summer Semester Financial Aid Options
And here is the great news: financial aid is now available in the summer! Summer semesters are considered part of the academic year for federal financial aid programs, meaning students may have additional benefits available they don’t know about.
Pell Grants
Pell grants are available for all three semesters. Instead of a four-year basis, tuition waivers/scholarships are now awarded on an 8-semester basis. This allows students the flexibility to apply them to any semester in which they are enrolled. Qualifying students can also apply for state and federal aid loans to further reduce expenses.
