Dear Future T-Birds: We Are Thinking About You

A letter from our Assistant Vice President:

Future T-Birds,

I am sure this isn’t the way you wanted to finish this year. You are missing out on graduations, proms, senior trips, among so many other “lasts” you thought you would have. It really isn't fair, and I can't imagine the disappointment you must be feeling. You are more than validated in those emotions.

I also know that I can't do much to fix those things but what I do want you to understand is that you’ve constantly been on my mind throughout all of this. The Southern Utah University Admissions team has been hard at work trying to adjust all that we do to fit this new lifestyle we are all enduring. We’re thinking of you. We care about YOU. We want to make this college decision process easier for you.

So I want to share a few initiatives that are being implemented on our campus to make sure you know that you have flexible options when it comes to continuing your education here at SUU:

  • All SUU students who earned an academic scholarship will be allowed to use those funds to study on campus in Cedar City or remain remote while taking online courses this Fall. Historically, online only students have not been able to use these awards towards online tuition but because of extenuating circumstances, this is now an option for you.
  • Since we know extra funds can be tight right now, we are offering the option to postpone your Enrollment Deposit to come out with your tuition and fees at the beginning of the term. This will allow you to continue moving forward with your next steps, such as the Tbird Takeoff Questionnaire (TTQ) that is required prior to class registration. If this is something you are interested in, please make sure to fill out the Deposit Postponement Form.
  • We know you want to visit campus either for the first time or to help you make a final decision. While we are not able to take new tours, we have created a Campus Tour video with our amazing Presidential Ambassadors that will help you get a feel for the culture of our campus. We are also offering one on one video appointments with our Admissions counselors to answer your individual questions. Sign up today!
  • We are still offering academic scholarships for our out of state students. There is still time to apply and be awarded scholarship money based upon your Admissions Index score, find out what you might qualify for here.
  • Finances can be difficult at any time but these uncertain times only complicate that. If there has been a change in your family's financial status since you have completed the FAFSA, you can complete the Special Condition Application and submit documentation to be considered for a change in funding.

Brandon WrightWe want to make your transition to SUU as seamless as possible. I hope you will reach out to your admissions counselor with any questions, they will be more than happy to help you through any concerns you may have.

Here at SUU, we genuinely want the best for our students and that hasn't changed, only increased through these uncertain times. There is no roadmap for what we are going through but I am hopeful that we will make it through this - together.

Again, don't forget that we are rooting for you. We are here to help. We care about you.
