Summer is in full swing, though it may not feel like it under the present circumstances. If you’re missing being on Southern Utah University’s campus, try getting crafty with this summer-y, SUU-inspired DIY bleach t-shirt. These shirts are the perfect way to get creative, and show some school spirit.

Materials:

  • T-shirt
  • Cardstock
  • Cardboard
  • Bleach mixture (50-70% bleach 30-50% water)
  • Spray bottle

Stencil Instructions:

  1. Select a design to print
  2. Print out your design on cardstock (this will not work with regular paper)
  3. Cut out your printed design into a stencil (this works well using an exacto knife)
  4. Place and secure your stencil on your T-shirt

T-Shirt Instructions:

  1. Place the cardboard inside your shirt to prevent the bleach from bleeding (every area you plan to spray with bleach should be covered with cardboard)
  2. Working in a well-ventilated area, spray your shirt and stencil with the bleach mixture
  3. Let the bleach dry for as long or as short as you’d like (the longer the shirt sits, the more bleached out it will be)
  4. Remove your cardboard and stencil
  5. Rinse your shirt in cold water before washing it to remove any remaining bleach (wash the shirt by itself to prevent bleaching other clothing items)
  6. Enjoy your new T-shirt!

Ways to spice it up-SUU style:

  • Use a red T-shirt to wear on Fridays with your fellow T-birds
  • Use an SUU-inspired design for your stencil
