Depending on the student, listening to music while studying may be relaxing or distracting. If you choose to listen to music while studying, it is important to find a balance depending on how you best learn.
“Individuals who are easily distracted might avoid music in order to keep their focus on their work, while those who are multitaskers may find that music helps their concentration,” said Toni Sage, director of academic success at Southern Utah University. “However, sometimes we overestimate our ability to effectively multitask. Therefore, students can experiment with listening to music and then reflect on whether they think it truly works for them or not. Music that is soothing and without lyrics is generally recommended as study music and can also help to reduce stress.”
If you are someone who thrives listening to music, here are a few Spotify playlists for studying.
Spotify Playlists for Studying
If you like Jazz music, this is the perfect playlist for you to study to. The smooth jazz playing in the background has the potential to help you improve your focus while hitting those books.
Spotify describes this as a “soft musical backdrop for your studies.” Without lyrics to draw your attention away from your studies, this playlist is perfect to improve your focus.
This playlist composed of soft piano music is designed to blend into the background so you can focus your work instead of the music.
4. Mozart Study
Many people have debated whether or not listening to Mozart for long periods of time can improve your intelligence and your capacity to learn. Regardless of if this theory is correct, this Mozart playlist can help you stay on track.
5. Deep Focus
Just like the title states, this playlist is tailored to induce “deep focus.” So tune in, grab some water, your notes, and get to learning.
Though these playlists are designed to help you focus, it is important to decide for yourself whether or not listening to music actually helps improve your studying, or distracts you from the task at hand. If it does help, these Spotify playlists are an excellent place to start.
