The following message from SUU's Student Body President Nouman Kante was sent to all students.
Hello T-Birds,
I want to welcome you back to campus for the Spring 2021 semester. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, SUU is diligently working to ensure campus is the safest environment possible. SUU administration has consulted with local medical and public health experts, and has thoroughly reviewed campus safety protocols from the Utah Health Department and Governor’s Office. An important takeaway of what we have learned is that keeping our campus safe and staying open will require the active engagement of the entire SUU community including students, faculty and staff. I know there are many questions out there and I wanted to address a few of those below.
Basic Safety
Everyone on campus will be required to properly wear a face mask on campus, wash hands frequently, and social distance as much as possible. If you haven’t already done so, you can pick up your free SUU mask in the Student Leadership Office in the Student Center Room 177.
Campus Life
We are re-imagining many traditional student activities in light of state requirements and guidelines from the CDC regarding social distancing. With this in mind, dining services, formal and informal student gatherings, and classroom set-ups will be adjusted accordingly. There will still be plenty of fun events and ways for you to be involved and engage with other students. Follow @suu_spb on Instagram for updates and details.
COVID-19 Testing
Below are some frequently asked questions relevant to COVID testing:
1. Can I attend my face-to-face classes if I haven't been tested prior to school starting?
Yes! You should still be attending your classes while you wait to take your COVID test. Continue to follow all safety precautions, wear a face mask on campus, wash hands frequently, and social distance as possible.
2. If I had COVID within the last 90 days, do I need to take a test in the first two weeks?
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days you do not need to be tested in the first two weeks of the semester. Please provide those test results to a representative at the asymptomatic testing site in the Ballroom to get marked as "tested" and removed from our list of students still requiring a test.
3. If I took a COVID test in my hometown before arriving on campus, do I still need to be tested at SUU?
No, if you’ve received a negative test result within the last 72 hours. Please provide those test results to a representative at the asymptomatic testing site in the Ballroom to get marked as "tested" and removed from our list of students still requiring a test.
4. Where can I test?
The testing site will be open for students with NO COVID symptoms in the Student Center Ballroom Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Please book your appointment for a rapid COVID test. Make sure you bring your Student ID and T-Number. Results will be emailed to you on the day of your test. If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, DO NOT come to the Ballroom. Drive-up symptomatic testing is available at the J. Reuben Clark Center (formerly known as the Alumni House) by appointment.
Thank you for all you do to keep SUU open and safe. Here is to a great new semester and new year! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about anything.
