Once you’ve established your LinkedIn profile, it’s time to move on to the next step: building a professional network using your LinkedIn profile. Here are some tips to build and maintain a professional network to help get your foot in the door of your chosen career.
1. Tailor your Profile to your Goals
After building your profile on LinkedIn, review your profile to ensure that your profile is tailored to your goals. Check to make sure your writing is tailored to your audience, use the headline to broadcast your ideal job, include keywords in your skills and expertise section, mention your most relevant experience, and join LinkedIn groups that line up with your goals!
2. Use Effective Communication
Effective communication is essential to maintaining a professional network on LinkedIn. Be authentic and responsive, and make sure to do your research before reaching out to contacts in order to customize your connection requests. Don’t forget to proofread your messages, and always say thank you after your conversations.
3. Publish on LinkedIn
LinkedIn allows users to publish their work and have that published work viewed by potential employers. To publish on LinkedIn, simply login to your account and click on the pencil icon on the homepage. When you’re working on a piece for publication, review the headline to make sure it’s attention-grabbing, proofread your work, and don’t be afraid to show off your knowledge and skills.
4. Use LinkedIn to Find Jobs and Internships
LinkedIn is a fantastic place for students and recent graduates to find job opportunities and internships. When looking for a job or internship on LinkedIn include relevant headlines and experience, build a network of potential employers, search the Student Jobs Portal, and don’t be afraid to ask your network for help.
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with 300 million members in over 200 countries and territories around the globe. LinkedIn’s mission is to connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful.
